Poem: Lazarus & the Bees

Lazarus went to check the bees.

We thought you were gone, they said.

Gone, yes, down in the earth.

The worms told us

the caterpillars reported.

No, said Lazarus

I've come back.

I thought of you while I was gone,

down in the tomb,

away in the dark

tucked into a little honeycomb.

Yes, said the bees,

that's just what it's like

warm, sweet

knowing every neighbor

is just beyond a bit of wax.

Yes, said the bees

you can hear the buzzing

you can feel the hum

of life all around

even as you sleep.
