Evidence: Writing Prompt

Image Pair Writing Prompt Instructions:

(You're invited to disregard these instructions and go with whatever inspires you, this is just a place to start: the point is to write)

  1. Make a list of all the words that come to mind. Set a timer for 1-3 minutes. Write as many as you can, without filtering; the goal is quantity. (Stuck? Write what you see.)

  2. Circle 5 "hot" words: whatever feels compelling, surprising, connected... go with your gut.

  3. Set a timer for 5 minutes. Write 10 First Sentences using those words (or whatever shows up). "First Sentences" are what they sound like: opening lines.

  4. Write for 10 minutes (or more!). Use the intersection of the words you chose. See what shows up. Again, the goal is quantity. Editing and judgement are for later (or never; this is an exercise). Don't want to stop when the timer goes off? Keep writing!

  5. If you're writing in a group, it's pretty fun to share your lists, hot words, and writing as you go; what overlaps, and what's different?

I'd love to see your process-- share in the comments if you'd like!
